A Decade of Decadence: 3/3/08–3/3/18

The day is here, folks, and I have no clue how to start this damn thing. I guess I should’ve thought of this well before but hey, it’s not a school assignment, so fuck it. Instead, I’ll just try my best to wing it, like always.

After 5:32 AM on this day (March 3rd, 2018), it has been exactly ten years since I first unveiled my erotic fan art online and roughly twenty years minus several months since I started to draw cartoon women in various states of undress, after seeing Dexter’s Mom prance around the family’s swimming pool in the episode ‘Better Off Wet’ (and having my puberty kick off because of that moment). While I always had a hunch it would last this long, I could’ve never dreamed of all the wonderful things it has brought to my life. At the very most, I simply assumed that I’d maybe find two or three people to occasionally chat about all things cartoon erotica and maybe get some e-fame on places such as Paheal and 4chan. However, I would’ve never imagined the magnitude of having such a hobby.

Some of those online friendships that I formed back in March of ’08 have lasted to this day and actually strengthened to the point that I’ve met some of these fine folk in person and even had one so graciously accommodate me when I was on an extended trip in his area. Some relationships had a rocky start, but still turned out good: thanks to the diplomatic skills of a mutual friend, a former rival of mine ended up teaching me valuable Photoshop techniques and as well as showed me how to differentiate between valuable feedback and empty praise. Today, he is one of my best online friends, and we have VoIP calls on a regular basis. I’m also happy to have still met some great people after those early days, such as one of my regular commissioners whose involvement in my life not only ended up getting my artwork seen by Ralph Bakshi himself, but also scored me several major autographs from legendary voice actors (most notably Grey Griffin, who signed a drawing I had made featuring several of the characters she has helped bring to life). In addition, I’ve also had a continuous email conversation with this person since 2012, most likely spanning well over 1,000 replies and with no end in sight.

In short, my decision to post something on the Wacky World of Erotic Cartoons forums simply to avoid having my third account get purged due to lurking completely changed my life. Whoever implemented that rule, I salute you. And while it’s likely to have simply sped up the inevitable decision to post my doodles online, I’m quite certain that the path I’ve walked so far would’ve looked very different. If anything, my art would’ve likely looked worse than it does now, and who knows, maybe I’d have quit drawing altogether or turned into one of those insufferable drama queens who keep deleting their old stuff and moving from site to site and forum to forum.

The online communities available for erotic cartoon fans have drastically changed during these ten years. Gone are dedicated web sites such as WWOEC and the popularity of old-school PhpBB-style message boards, with smartphone-accessible social media portals in their place. Paheal and deviantART are still here, although the latter has lost a considerable amount of talent to the poorly-coded Tumblr (which is one of the worst places to host fan art, but I’m not going to get into that here) while the former has had to endure constantly fluctuating national and international laws concerning illustrated erotica. It was in June of ’08 that I set up this still-functioning Blogger page as a temporary place to release my art outside WWOEC forums while searching for a proper portal for an art gallery. Today, I have my long-standing deviantARTpage to hold my SFW and softcore material, which isn’t quite enough but certainly better than nothing.

It is also this demand of a thorough, well-organized gallery that gave birth to the forever-in-the-making project better known as the art archive, which I’m SERIOUSLY going to get done this year. Originally, I was hoping to have the first iteration of it done by 2009 (as ‘the art bundle’) but as fate would have it, something would always prevent me from getting it to a releasable state. Right now, it’s about halfway finished, with the biggest and most arduous work of simply organizing everything in proper categories thankfully behind me. My goal now is to just get it out there and then keep it updated either three or four times per year. In some weird, poetic manner the current archive will be closest to the original bundle, as it will likely have very few extras and simply high-quality, high-resolution versions of all the pictures I’ve published. All the bonus content will be added later via patches, and if there are pictures I deem worth finishing first, I will do exactly that.

So, is there anything else that needs to be said? It’s a bit tough since I've already covered quite a few topics during my earlier celebratory posts. Hell, I already ran out of things to say last year! I suppose I should reiterate that my life is currently at a turning point which makes it very difficult for me to say what happens next. However, I still have passion for doing this and I will, as long as it is possible, to keep at it. The day will eventually come when I stop drawing for good, but I hope it will be the day I die (or at least when I lose muscle control due to old age). Having said that, it’s quite difficult to say how long this will go on and I obviously can’t make any concrete promises… but I’ll try my best.

In closing, I guess I could mention why I started doing this in the first place.

It was because I thought I could draw my own fap material.

And before you ask, the answer is ‘no’, at least when it comes to "short-term profits." It doesn’t really work as a concept because you end up spending so much time trying to get your “steamy” idea stuck to the paper that you get bored with it and simply move on – assuming you manage to even finish it before losing interest. On the bright side, if you do manage to enjoy the creative process itself, it will create you a drive to keep you drawing further images. The online attention may also help, although you need to prevent it from getting into your head too much, as it may create ego problems (hubris). In the end, you just might develop into a better artist… and then, going back to some of those pictures you created earlier, who knows: you just might see them arousing again after enough time has passed by.

My nickname is dlt and will likely remain as such until the end. I started my journey on a long-gone cartoon porn forum and eventually found my way into deviantART. I still have my old blog, dlt’s decadent drawings, even though I barely use it these days. I still frequent on 4chan, although I tend to post anonymously these days. I follow people’s comments about my art on Paheal and welcome constructive criticism as I want to keep improving. And no, I still haven’t seen the movie (The Night Porter, 1974) on which I based my very first (awful) published drawing, because I’ve heard it’s not a very good one.

Thank you to each and every one of you who have supported my fan art throughout this decade! Whether or you’re a personal friend of mine or someone who only once happened to stumble upon my art and liked it, I wish to express my utmost gratitude for you (unless you’re a tracer, in which case you should rot in hell).

Here’s to the next ten years.

LITE ART: Lewd Vega

A quick doodle loosely based on an old, unreleased pencil sketch from couple of years ago.

LITE ART: Toothjob

No idea if this character has three boobs or not, I just went silly with it. I doubt they'll answer this question when the movie comes out, though.

This is probably the first time I've drawn, erm, fan art of a 3D-animated character.

LITE ART: Fenton Tassels

Some of you may have already seen this sketch uploaded to Paheal. The reason why I hadn't posted it yet on my blog is that I hadn't figured out how to categorize it. However, I am posting it under 'lite art' until further notice since it does have similiarities with my usual inkings, the major difference being that it's fully digital.

I recently got myself a graphics tablet: Wacom Intuos 5 Touch L. So far, I'm liking it, although I can now see why so many of my friends warned me about it being a bit too large and how I should probably go with a medium-sized model instead. Oh well, it's too late now but I think I can manage. I hope to be able to do more efficient sketching/planning with it and also semi-retire Photoshop's pen tool which I've used to ink the majority of my pictures until this point. I am still going to use it with certain pictures (such as anything DP-related, fully finished art) but I hope to be able to go ahead and ink characters like Peg from Goof Troop much more naturally from this day forward.

The doodle you're looking at is actually part of a brainstorming session I had with Toonspew (My Life as a Teenaged Von Neumann Device) earlier this week. We've been working on-and-off with a potential comic project for about a year or so and this is a one-panel gag he came up as a way of giving Maddie a brief cameo appearance (the comic's not about her). The gag itself is obviously a reference to the way the Fentons would be showcasing their latest inventions in ghost hunting to Danny and Jazz. Also, this is the first tablet-made image I've posted on my blog!

In other news, it's less than a month for my fifth anniversary as a cartoon porn fan artist and I am furious because I've been having some serious computer problems recently. They eventually got so bad I had to take my PC to a shop to be repaired (I'm writing this from my laptop; I can doodle with my tablet on it but it lacks the power and tools for doing my regular stuff). This also means that I won't be able to go ahead with my original plans to have an art archive published at the date of the celebration, or that piece of art I had been planning to release in honor of it (hint: it's something Maddie-related I've been asked to do for a long time).

Both of these things will still happen, but there might be a two or three-week delay, maybe an entire month. It really depends on how soon I'll be able to get back to work. I'm positive that it won't take longer than that, though.

LITE ART: New Year's Jubilee

UPDATE (about 6 hours later): well, I did manage to fuck it up. I had to redraw the right hand of the girl on the left side because I had accidentally drawn her thumb on the wrong side. Thanks for noticing it, Z. This means that I now had to use Photoshop to replace the erroneus hand with a proper one. Darn it!

Yes, it's a new 'lite art' piece. I haven't done these for almost three years. It's also traditionally inked as opposed to my usual artwork and the only tweaking I've done in Photoshop consists of arranging the girls and the text and cleaning up some pencil lines. This is, in a way, a sequel to this old X-Mas pic from 2008 and once again features sexy girls drawn in Aragonés style.

2012 was an interesting year. Throughout the year, I had been pushing myself to learn better shading and lighting effects and learning new, more effective ways of colouring a picture to speed up art creation process. I had two successful commission runs and tried out characters and cartoon series I hadn't done before. I had the pleasure of discovering Gravity Falls and was disappointed by SheZow (concept was awesome, execution was bad, most likely ruined by political correctness). I was scared shitless when Disney purchased Star Wars but felt some relief when J. J. Abrams announced he wasn't going to be directing. I watched the Roland Emmerich movie 2012 on December 21st, 2012, celebrating doomsday I knew wouldn't be coming anyway.

Let's see what 2013 has to offer. I know I'll be working with a high-end PC soon and I might even get myself a graphics tablet of some sort, so that should at least speed things up :)

Happy New Year 2013, everyone!

LITE ART: A Vicky Valentine

I don't celebrate Valentine's Day but here's a holiday-themed pic anyway :P

LITE ART: Stripperific Holidays

Sergio Aragonés draws some very fine-looking women. For the past 11 years I've been trying to learn his style of drawing sexy girls and I can tell you, it's a pain in the ass!

Naturally, I've been tinkering with #17 for the past few nights but during the occasional breaks I've been working on an Aragonés-style pic I felt that was actually going somewhere. I finished it ten minutes ago and I feel that it came out nicely.

With this pic I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

(BTW I won't be taking any long breaks from drawing - on the contrary!)

LITE ART: Robo-scissoring

Here's the previously private birthday pic for ToonSpew, now inked, cleaned up and in "colour".

Remember the MLaaTR pic which suffered from partial fail? I think I managed to remove the "fail" this time as I'm pretty happy with the results:

I hope you enjoy it. This time I went closer to Fern's more meatier style as I received some critique from my last MLaaTR pic for using models that had too thin body parts. I think it does look nicer now.

In other news, #17 is now completely inked and scanned! Fucking around in Photoshop will ensue tomorrow night. I doubt I'll be able to hit the deadline of 12/24/08, it'll probably get delayed a few more days.

EDIT (a few minutes later): Fixed a colouring error!

LITE ART: Remembering the Forgotten

Here's a little something I drew for my pal Toonspew, for today is his birthday. It's concept art for an idea of his which features a rather grim-looking future for the forgotten ghost of Ember McLain. I also sent him a little hardcore sketch featuring Jenny and Vega getting nasty with each other. I'll probably publish that one too after I've done some retouching with it as it's a bit of a rush job.

Happy birthday, Toonspew!

LITE ART: Oops

Guess what? I drew a picture! This one's for all you unlucky bastards who forgot to turn off your sounds before taking a photo of that juicy ass with your cell phone camera:

Tucker's gonna get his ass whooped in three seconds.

Since it's not really a proper picture (as it's not vectored nor coloured and you can still see some pencil marks) but too elaborate to be a quick sketch (it took me about 2-3 hours to, I have to categorize this into something else. The first thing that popped into my mind was the word "lite", so there you have it.

For the inspiration of this pic I blame Levelord, my first drawfagging night at /co/ and a recent chat I had with Sniper Tomcat.

Oh, and if that was a DrawnSex pic, it'd be titled OPS.

EDIT (later): some joker decided to make an edit of the pic where Tucker's absent and instead it's Jazz who's eyeing Maddie's ass. I had nothing to do with that variation.

LITE ART: Not So Icky

I should be sleeping but once again, I've stayed up reading fan fics and scribbling with MS Paint. I saw a Trixie Tang thread at 4chan's /co/ board and, thanks to it, was once again reminded about this great cartoon called The Fairly OddParents. Trixie's not my favourite girl from it, though (she's my second favourite). I go for Vicky. Not the scrawny one but the older, more voluptous one that seems to have a thing for Timmy instead of sadistically torturing him. Yeah, pretty much non-canon but what do I care?

Here's a little MS Paint sketch (vector traced with Adobe Illustrator), showing Vicky still willing to babysit Timmy who's now a teenager with a mullet (mullets rawk). Wanda isn't really happy about the situation since it's pretty obvious what the two are going to do once Mr. and Mrs. Turner leave the house...

dlt out.

EDIT: Just noticed that Vicky's left foot looks like it's her right, with the bulge on the wrong side. This is caused by the damn tracing creating bumps in the wrong places. Similar effect (but not so noticeable) can be seen on Wanda's belly which isn't supposed to look like she's gained weight. Damn!

EDIT #2: Fixed!

LITE ART: Naked Beach Frenzy!

UPDATE (5/9/11): I've now categorized all my softcore quick inks and lite art pics under one and same category, lite art. Regular, non-ero, etc. is under scraps.

I should be sleeping right now... but I couldn't stop drawing. Damnit!

This one's for USA, even if don't live in there. Just a good excuse to draw Miss Keane in a stars and stripes bikini :P

I've actually seen some variations of this classic swimsuit, so I also did an alternative version.

Then there are the "naughty" versions, too (he he).

Done with MS Paint (!!!) and Adobe Illustrator in a matter of two and a half hours.

I know it's two days too early, but still. Happy Fourth of July 2008, America! Celebrate your independence with lots and lots of fireworks, 'cos I love those things.
